WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY CELEBRATION
IN SUBHARTI DENTAL COLLEGE MEERUT

World no tobacco day was celebrated on 31st May 2019 in Subharti Dental College by Dept of Oral Medicine and Radiology with an aim of spreading awareness about the adverse effects caused by the use of tobacco. Tobacco Cessation Centre is running in Subharti Dental College since 2012 and every year this day is celebrated on 31st May. Till now around 2500 patients have been fully successful in quitting their habit after utilizing the facilities of this centre. This year the slogan given was “Apne Liye Nahi Apno Ke Liye Tambaku Sevan Chhodein, Aaiye Abse………..Apne Liye Nahi, Apno Ke Liye Jiyein.”
This year it was celebrated in association with Indian Dental Association Meerut Cantt Branch and hence several practicing dental surgeons also participated in this event. Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal SDC emphasized on ill effects of tobacco and advised patients to utilize the services of newly opened Advance Dental Care & Cure center which includes a more bigger tobacco cessation clinic and fully equipped oral cancer detection clinic. The main attraction of the programme was street play performed by the students of BDS 2016 batch in order to motivate patients to quit tobacco. A pledge was taken by all the patients that they will not only themselves quit tobacco but also will motivate all their friends, relatives and neighbors to quit this harmful habit. Apart from this students of BDS 2015 and 2016 organized a grand fair in which they displayed various stalls decorated with patient motivating charts and models. They also conducted games in these stalls which not only attracted the patients towards the stalls but also increased awareness regarding tobacco cessation. All the students were awarded with certificates for their whole hearted participation in this noble cause.
On this occasion, Dr Vineeta Nikhil, President IDA Meerut Cantt branch and Dr Vishal Sharma, Secretary IDA Meerut Cantt branch gave motivational and encouraging speeches on importance of tobacco cessation. Some of the patients shared their experience of having quit tobacco and they were awarded by the Principal SDC and President IDA Meerut Cantt branch for their endeavor in their quit attempt. An inspiration book namely "Koshish Karne Waalon Ki Kabhi Haar Nahi Hoti" was also inaugurated on this day which shall help people quit tobacco. More than 200 patients attended this event and got motivated.
In addition Camps were organized in villages by Department of Public Health Dentistry to increase awareness on this topic.
