The Chief Guest of the event was Lt. Gen. N.K. Sahoo PVSM, VSM, PHDS, DGDS & Colonel Commandant Army Dental Corps. The event was graced by a number of eminent Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and Orthodontists, who not only shared their knowledge by showcasing their cases and experience but imparted practical knowledge about surgeries and case planning also by conducting a hands on course. There are various career options after BDS like persuing MDS, starting own practice, working as an associate dentist and moving abroad. Seeking higher education or job in other countries has gained momentum in recent years and moving to The United States of America is kind of a dream for many dentists in India.
Keeping in mind the interest of budding dentists, undergraduates and postgraduates regarding pursuing DDS in the United States of America, a webinar was organized by our department, department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics with the aim of guiding, motivating, and benefiting young dentists for pursuing DDS in the United States of America by our alumni, Dr. Kanika Singh on the topic “Road map to US dental schools: BDS to DDS” .
The webinar was live telecast on various social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube and Subharti University social media channel. since the topic was a hot cake for many budding dentists it was well received and was a grand success in terms of its reach. The same can be easily understood looking at the number of participants attending the webinar which was as good as 140. Not only this, the webinar was also an opportunity for the students of Subharti Dental Collegeto get to know about their alumni and get motivated and also it was an opportunity for the alumni guest speaker to address and interact with young minds whom he/she can guide and share experiences with. Connecting with the alma mater was a great chance as experienced and shared by the guest speaker.

Ortho-Esthetics
GUEST LECTURE ON 22ND OCTOBER 2021
Seeking Orthodontic treatment for esthetic reason has been known since the inception of the oldest specialty of Dentistry, i.e. Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. In the present times, a new dimension to this specialty has gained importance and that is “Enhancement Orthodontics” wherein patients seek orthodontic intervention just to enhance the component of their occlusion and smile in particular which otherwise seems normal.
This trend in itself is reflective of the fact that orthodontics has become an integral component of Esthetics and hence the department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Subharti Dental College, organized a webinar on the topic “Ortho-Esthetics”by an eminent Orthodontist and speaker with enormous experience in the field Dr.(Prof.) Gautam Munjal.

Myofunctional Appliance
SYMPOSIUM ON 18TH SEPTEMBER 2021
Objective- Myofunctional appliance therapy is an umbrella term which encompasses various fuctional appliances and the selection of which to use varies with the type of skeletal and dental anamoly, growth pattern and the operator’s preference. Its knowledge and applicability has both academic as well as clinical relevance. It is a boon for patient coming at the right age to the dentist. Therefore, the main objective of this course was to make all the participants aware about the various appliances, their respective indications, contraindications, fabrication and delivery of the appliance with its instructions.
Outcome- One day symposium was organized on “Myofunctional Therapy” by the department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Subharti Dental College in which more than 150 students and faculty of various department participated. The symposium comprised of first a lecture followed up by hands-on workshop. Lecture included the details about history, diagnosis and description on how to choose the suitable Myofunctional appliance for a particular case. Followed by this, hands-on workshop included the training for taking construction bite for various Myofunctional appliances, their fabrication and finishing.
All the participants were very satisfied and got upgraded in their knowledge on a difficult topic that was made easy and practically sound by the speaker making this Symposium a great success.
World Orthodontic Health Day- 2019
The department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Subharti Dental College Hospital, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut on the occasion of “World Orthodontic Health Day” conducted an “Orthodontic Awareness Programme” for two days i.e. 15 th May and 16 th May 2019. On the first day of theprogramme an awareness camp wasorganized in one of the premium school of Meerut i.e. “Delhi Public School” in which approx. 1000 students from class 5 th to 10 th standard was covered under this program. The post-graduate students and faculty members of Orthodontics department presented a small presentation individually in different classes about the specialty of Orthodontics and the role of Orthodontist in straightening of mal-aligned/crowded teeth and the correction of mal-aligned jaws position. They also revealed the major differences between a Dentist and a specialized doctor that is an “ORTHODONTIST”.Followed by this, on the same day an essay competition was also conducted for BDS final year
students and Intern in which enthusiastically they participated in huge numbers.
In continuation, on next day i.e. 16 th May yet another awareness and free dental check-up camp was organized in another premium school of Meerut, i.e. BIT Global School, in this we covered more than 600 students from Nursery to Class 12th. Along with spreading awareness, free dental check-up was done for each & every student. They were examined for various dental and skeletal malocclusions and were given instructions about how to keep their dental health safe and sound. This awareness program was a huge success as all the students excitedly participated in full enthusiasms and were most eager to learn, interact and to know the answers of their queries.
Certification course on Essential of Clinical Photography
A two day Value Added Certification Course on Essential of Clinical Photography was organized by Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in Subharti Dental College on 9-10th April 2019 in which more than 80 students, faculty participated. On First day, there were lectures on the mainstream photography, its basics which included detailed knowledge of what is camera, its components and how it should be actually used.
On Second day, the whole focus was on how the clinical photographs should be taken. It also included details on its procedure, its requirements and equipments that are used while taking photographs.
Following this, on the same day, a hands on workshop was conducted which gave all the participants a chance to use a camera personally and they also clicked various clinical photographs with the guidelines told to them in the lecture. After this, a question answer round was held which clarified all their doubts & myths about photography.
In the end, a small evaluation test was conducted which included multiple choice questions. All participants cleared the test with flying colors. This showed that each and everyone who attended the Course was well educated about clinical photography from basics to practical usage and thus made this Value Added Course not only very successful but also a big hit.
IOS ZONAL ORTHODONTIC PG CONVENTION
Dept of Orthodontics conducted the 18th IOS Zonal Orthodontic PG Convention on 21st& 22nd Sept 2018. The event had great contents for scientific presentation, panel discussion and poster presentation right from basics to most recent innovations, which included eminent speakers from round the country. The highlight of the event was the inauguration ceremony which was presided over by Dr.Balwinder S Thakkar, vice-president IOS and was graced by Dr. Pradeep Jain, Pres. Elect IOS. The special guest of the event was Dr. Hemant Sharma, EC Member DCI.
The jam packed event also found some time for fun & frolic as a Gala Dinner was held where everybody was able to relax and rejuvenate.
A major attraction of the event was starting of a new tradition of distributing pen drives to the delegates with key articles of orthodontics which were contributed by pioneers of Orthodontics in India, a special thanks to Dr.Munish Reddy who was the man behind compiling all the articles.
All in all the event was a grand success under the guidance of Dr. Pradeep Raghav, Organizing Chairman of the conevntion as the guests and delegates were full of accolades and praises for the convention and the college.

CDE on Fixed Functional Appliances
Department of Orthodontics, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, organized a CDE programme (Lecture cum hands on course) in October 2017 on the topic “Fixed Functional Appliances”. The guest speakers, Prof. Gurkeerat Singh, delivered lectures and conducted hands-on workshop on Fixed Functional appliance. More than 200 delegates attended the program.
CDE on Integrating Periodontics for Accelerated Orthodontics
An interdisciplinary CDE was conducted in collaboration with the Dept of Periodontics on 6th September 2016.
IOS Smile Torch
A nationwide drive was carried out to celebrate the golden jubilee of Indian Orthodontic Society. The torch was passed throughout the nation spreading awareness and importance of Orthodontic treatment and healthy teeth. The smile torch sessions in our department were held from 22nd March -26th March 2015.
National Post Graduate Convention
Department of Orthodontics, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, organized a 4 days national PG Convention on the theme “Pathway to Perfection” on 27th Feb- 2nd March 2014. The Galaxy of Eminent Speakers with many star Indian Speakers delivered lectures on various important Orthodontic topics. More than 1700 delegates actively participated to make this PG Convention programme a grand success.

Department of Orthodontics, Subharti Dental College will be organizing the National Orthodontic Conference in 2023, in which more than 2000 delegates are expected to participate from all over India.
