PUBLIC AWARENESS LECTURE SERIES
Department of Periodontology & Implantology celebrated Oral Hygiene week (Day -3) by organising, a Mega Oral Health Awareness Camp at Khadauli, Meerut, under the patronage of Indian Society of Periodontology. Oral Hygiene Day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Dr.G.B. Shankwalkar, the founder of Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) with the purpose of propagating the awareness and educating the importance of oral hygiene amongst the public.
More than 50 Patients were Screened and were addressed during the camp regarding the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, proper brushing technique, and use of various types of toothpastes and mouthwashes.
- Dr. Nitin Tomar, Professor, Department of Periodontology conducted educational awareness talk on maintaining the oral hygiene and also demonstrated correct method of toothbrushing.
- Dr. Nazar Rana, Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology educated masses about different types of Toothpastes along with their indications.
- Dr. Vasudha Gupta and Dr. Manisha Daruka (Post graduate students, Department of Periodontology) described the use of different types of Mouthwashes.
- The students, Dr. Manpreet Kaur & Dr. Ritika Sharma (interns) were also involved in Dental Health check-up camp.
- Oral health screening and Preliminary treatment procedures like ultrasonic scaling and restorative procedures were performed in the Mobile Dental Van by post-graduates and interns. Prescriptions were also prescribed to the patients and they were guided to get their extensive treatment done at Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut The program was a huge success and witnessed a wholehearted participation by the masses.
ORAL HYGIENE WEEK
Department of Periodontology & Implantology celebrated Oral Hygiene week at the Lobby of Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut under the aegis of Indian Society of Periodontology, and under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Professor & Head, Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut.
This day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. G.B. Shankwalkar, the founder of Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) with the purpose of disseminating the awareness and educating the importance of oral hygiene amongst the public.

1. Impact of Oral health on systemic health by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava.

3. Types of toothpaste being used with their indications & contraindications by Dr. Shivi Khattri.
4. Difference between manual & powered toothbrushes by Dr. Mehvish Saleem.
5. Correct use of medicated mouthwashes by Dr. Soundarya Singh
6. Myths and facts about ultrasonic cleaning of teeth by Dr. Roopse.
The patients were also provided with free samples of medicated toothpaste and toothbrushes.
Objective: Continuing Dental Education Programme.
Activity: Under the leadership and continuous guidance of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, and esteemed Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Professor & HOD, Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital. CDE program on the topic “Bloodless Surgeries” was organized on 20th July, 2024 by Department of Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry and Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital.
The event included series of lectures, followed by Hands on – on animal models and live demonstration on patient. The speakers for the event were:
Dr. Pavitra Rastogi, Professor, Department of Periodontology & Implantology, KGMU, Lucknow. The lecture delivered was on Electrosurgery, followed by hands on animal models. The demonstration on animal models was given by Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Dr. Nitin Tomar & Dr. Nazar Rana
Dr. M.S. Saravana, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatric & Preventive Dentistry. The lecture delivered was on LASERS. The lecture was accompanied by hands on animal models.
Dr. Prajesh Dubey, Professor, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Delivered a lecture on Cryosurgery. It was accompanied by live demonstrations on patient.
The CDE program was also graced by the presence of Dr. Himanshu Aeran, pro Vice Chancellor, Subharti University who shed some light on the importance of multidisciplinary approach for various dental treatments.

PUBLIC AWARENESS LECTURE SERIES
As the awareness initiative of Subharti Dental College and Hospital under the Public Awareness Lecture Series (PALS) Department of Periodontology and Implantology, SDC&H organized a Mega Oral Health Awareness Camp at Panchli Village, Meerut on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024.
More than 40 Patients were Screened & were addressed during the camp regarding the importance of maintaining oral hygiene, proper brushing technique, and use of various types of toothpastes and mouthwashes.
The Health talks were delivered on:
1. The importance of Oral hygiene and types of toothpaste was addressed by Dr. Sameer Ahmed, Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology
2. Types of Mouthwashes & their correct use by Dr. Mehvish Saleem, Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology
3. Correct method of Toothbrushing by Dr. Ginni Verma (PG Resident)
4. Myths about Ultrasonic scaling were addressed by Dr. Simran Mishra and Dr. Riya Agarwal (PG Residents).
Educational pamphlets were distributed to all the patients. Oral health screening and Preliminary treatment procedures like ultrasonic scaling and restorative procedures were performed in the Mobile Dental Van by post-graduates and interns (Dr. Binish and Dr. Anjali). Prescriptions were also prescribed to the needy patients and they were guided to get the proper extensive treatment at Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut.
PUBLIC AWARENESS LECTURE SERIES PUBLIC AWARENESS LECTURE SERIES CONDUCTED BY DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY & IMPLANTOLOGY, SUBHARTI DENTAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL
A free dental health check-up & treatment camp was organized in Swami Vivekanand School in Satwai village. Dr. Nitin Tomar, Professor, Department of Periodontology conducted educational awareness talk on correct method of Brushing technique and educated Students and faculty about the types of Toothpastes in Swami Vivekanand School in Satwai. This was done with the help of Model and at the end a dental quiz was organized.
Dr. Mehvish Saleem, Associate Professor, Department of Periodontology educated non teaching staff of the school about the types of Mouthwashes. The students along with school faculty and non teaching staff were encouraged to ask questions about oral hygiene maintenance. A quiz was also organized and the winners of the Quiz sessions were awarded with a gift hamper consisting of a toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash for answering the question correctly. The program was a huge success and witnessed a wholehearted participation of the Interns & Post Graduates Students.
Oral Hygiene Week Celebration
Oral hygiene week was celebrated from 1st Aug 2023 – 8th Aug 2023 by the Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital. The events were as follows:
- Day 1: Patient motivation & awareness
- Day 2: Poster making competition
- Day 3: Dental Camp
Activities Organized
Lectures on oral hygiene for patients included brushing technique demonstration on cast model by Professor & Head Dr. Mayur Kaushik. Patients were also educated about the types of toothpastes by Professor, Dr. Nitin Tomar and finally the Demonstration of mouthwashes was given by Associate Professor Dr. Shivi Khattri
- Dental Quiz competition was also organized for the patients and non teaching staff.
- Free toothpaste samples were distributed to all the patients &non teaching staff.
- Poster making competition for dental students.
- Free dental check up camp & Treatment at Sikrikala, Modinagar.
All the students were awarded with certificates of participation and winners were also given a Plaque of Appreciation. The program was a huge success and witnessed a wholehearted participation of under graduate students.
Alumni Guest Lecture “Think, Innovate & Patent: Role of Intellectual Property Rights”
Amit Bhardwaj (Alumnus, Subharti Dental College and Hospital) Professor & Head, Department of Periodontology, SGT University, Gurugram, delivered a Guest lecture on the topic of “Think, Innovate & Patent: Role of Intellectual Property Rights” on 27th December 2023 to all faculty and postgraduates of Subharti Dental College and Hospital.
He enlightened our budding postgraduates about the importance and role of Intellectual Property Rights. The lecture covered how one can patent innovative ideas and its future prospects.
Post Graduates response was overwhelming and they asked her questions regarding scope of the patents being published. The most important objective for organising such activities is to increase the bond between alumni and students.
UG CDE Program on “LASER VS ELECTROSURGERY IN DENTISTRY”
Continuing with the tradition of providing excellence in dental education, a Guest Lecture program was organised by the Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University on 27TH December 2023. The distinguished guest speaker for the program was DR. Amit Bhardwaj, Professor & Head, Department of Periodontology, SGT University , Gurugram.
The lecture highlighted the use of LASER and ELECTROSURGERY in various fields of Dentistry. Different procedures were shown where the use of LASER and ELECTROSURGERY was done.
Through this educational initiative, students could learn about the new modalities involved in the treatment of various dental problems. At the end of the lecture a quiz was organised for the students, the winners of the quiz were made to do Hands – On on animal Model. All the participants participated with full encouragement.
NATIONAL PERIODONTIST DAY CELEBRATION

Mega Oral Health Awareness Program & Quiz was organized in SDC&H in which demonstration of correct toothbrushing technique to patients was given by Dr. Mayur Kaushik, (Professor & Head). Demonstration of Mouth washes use was given by Dr. Soumya Sharma & Dr.Ginni Verma (PostGraduate Students).
Entire week Patient Examination, Oral Hygiene Instruction were given to patients by respective Faculty member & Post Graduate student posted at OPD. Also, free toothpaste sampleand Educational Pamphlets regardingOral HygieneMaintenance werehanded overto all Patients.

On the Occasion of International Women’s Day i.e.8th March 2024, Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital conducted a Health Talk to all the Female Non-Teaching Staff of our College, in which their queries regarding the proper method of Tooth brushing was given by Dr. Mayur Kaushik, (Professor & Head). GUEST LECTURE ON “PREGNANCY AND PERIODONTITIS
Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Meerut organized an Alumni guest lecture under the guidance of our Dynamic Principal, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, on 29thMarch, 2024 on the topic “Pregnancy and Periodontitis”. The lecture was taken by Dr. Aena Jain Pundir, Professor & Head, Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Rungta Dental College, Bihlai, Chhattisgarh. Dr. Aena Jain Pundir has passed her BDS in 2007 from I. T. S , Ghaziabad and her MDS in 2011 from Subharti Dental college & Hospital. The lecture highlighted the important corelation between periodontitis and its impact on pregnant females the increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes and the cause of pre termlow-birth-weight babies. The program ended with felicitation of the guest speaker by our Principal, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava and Head of Department Periodontology, Dr. Mayur Kaushik. WORLD ORAL HEALTH DAY
Department of Periodontology & Implantology, under the aegis of Indian Society of Periodontology and dynamic leadership of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava Principal and Dean, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Meerut celebrated World Oral Health Day. The program was organized at Faculty of Education & Physical Education, College, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut, under the able guidance and supervision of Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Professor & Head of Department, on the theme “Be Proud of your Mouth” on 20th March 2023.
Programs conducted to mark the celebrations:
1. Awareness about Proper Oral hygiene and Demonstration of correct method of brushing by Dr. Mehvish Saleem, Associate Professor, Dept, of Periodontology & Implantology.
2. Awareness, Importance and correct use of Mouthwashes was given by Dr. Soundarya Singh, Assistant Professor Department of Periodontology & Implantology.
3. Lecture on Importance of Oral hygiene maintenance for students and faculty member was delivered by Dr. Mehvish Saleem & Dr. Soundarya Singh.
4. Concluding remarks to the students & faculty members were addressed by the Principal, Mr. Sandeep Chaudhary (Faculty of Education & Physical Education).
The program included 100 students and 7 faculty members and 1 post graduate student.
NATIONAL PERIODONTIST DAY
National Periodontist Day was celebrated on 23rdFebruary, 2023 by the Department of Periodontology & Implantology. Theme of the event was “Healthy Gums Healthy body.” Various events and competitions were organized on the occasion.
A poster competition was held for the BDS 3rd, 4th yr. & Interns of the Dental College. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition and presented their posters. Judges for the event were Dr. Roma Goswami, HOD -Prosthodontics, Dr. Nagaraju K, HOD- Oral Medicine & Radiology and Dr. Sanchit Pradhan, Incharge- Public Health Dentistry. The judges were felicitated by a token at the end of the event. Professor & Head of Department, Dr. Mayur Kaushik conducted a short lecture for the non-teaching staff of the college about important aspects of oral hygiene and correct method of toothbrushing and at the end a dental quiz was organized.
Winners of both the poster competition & dental quiz were rewarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000/-. Free toothpastes were distributed to the non-teaching staff. A free dental health check -up & treatment camp was also organized in Singhawali village, Meerut to spread awareness about oral hygiene and periodontal problems amongst the masses. The program was a huge success and witnessed a whole hearted participation of the undergraduate students & Interns.
Public Awareness Lecture Series (PALS)
Department of Periodontology & Implantology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital organised the P.A.L.S (Public Awareness Lecture Series) in collaboration with the Department of Public Health Dentistry in the Jatpura village of Meerut on 22.12.2022.
The event was organised to make the masses aware about the various ways to maintain good oral health. Professor & Head of department, Dr. Mayur Kaushik gave a talk about the correct method of toothbrushing and use of toothpaste, Dr. Nitin Tomar made the public aware about the use of mouthwashes and Dr. Sanchit Pradhan emphasized on the importance of healthy diet for the healthy mouth.
Free samples of toothpastes sponsored by the GSK (Glaxo Smith Kline) were distributed to the patients. About 50 patients participated in the camp.
Post graduate students Dr. Salil Joshi, Dr. Yashica Dhingra & Dr. Shubham Sharma and the interns from the department played an important role in the successful completion of the event.
GUEST LECTURE
Continuing with the tradition of providing excellence in dental education, a Guest Lecture program was organised by the Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, on 14.12.2022. The topic of the lecture was “Perio-Plastic Surgeries”. The guest speaker of the event was Dr. Pradeep Shukla, a renowned Periodontal Surgeon & Implantologist currently working as a Principal & Dean, Professor & Head, at Divya Jyoti College of Dental Sciences & Research, Modinagar (U.P) Principal & Dean, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava and Professor & Head, Department of Periodontology Dr. Mayur Kaushik welcomed the guest speaker by presenting with a sapling. The lecture was attended by the faculties and postgraduate students of all the departments. The program culminated with the Azad Hind National Anthem and presentation of token of appreciation to the guest speaker.
UG CDE Program
Continuing with the tradition of providing excellence in dental education, a UG CDE program was organised by the Department of Periodontology in collaboration with the Department of Public health dentistry, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, on 1.11.2022. The prerequisite of a successful dental surgeon is to be an expert in various kinds of suturing techniques, considering this, the title of the CDE was “Suture Materials & Suturing Techniques”. The guest speaker of the event was Dr. Madhuri Alankar Sawai, a renowned Periodontal Surgeon & Implantologist currently working as a Professor at Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. The Guest speaker, Dr. Madhuri Alankar Sawai & Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal & Dean Subharti Dental College & Hospital were welcomed by presenting with a sapling by Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Head of the Department of Periodontology & Implantology & Dr. Sanchit Pradhan, In-charge Department of Public Health Dentistry. The highlights of the program included a wonderful guest lecture followed by a dental quiz and a free hands-on suturing workshop on animal models for the quiz winners. Certificates were distributed to all the delegates. Dr. Reddy’s, Cascade Ltd. & Osco Lab were the sponsors for the program. The program culminated with the Azad Hind National Anthem and presentation of token of appreciation to the guest speaker. A total of 90 delegates participated in this event.
INDUSTRIAL VISIT- i-Fix implant Facility Faridabad- July 13th, 2022
Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Meerut organized an industrial visit for the post graduate students, Interns, Final Year BDS on 13th July, 2022 at the i- Fix Implant facility located in Faridabad. The visit was planned under the guidance of Dr. Mayur Kaushik & Dr. Shivi Khattri. The i-Fix dental implants have been conceptualized and developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi in collaboration with Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS) Delhi. During the visit the students were informed and taught about the process of implant manufacturing. All the steps & equipments in Implant manufacturing, from Titanium rods milling, shaping, sand blasting, acid etching, washing and packaging were demonstrated.

Department of Periodontology & Implantology celebrated World Oral Health day on the theme “Be Proud of your Mouth”on 21st March 2022, at Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut under the aegis of Indian Society of Periodontology, and under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava Principal and Dean, Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut.
Programs conducted to mark the celebrations:

ORAL HYGIENE DAY, 2020
Oral Hygiene Day was celebrated on August 1, 2020 in the Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, SVSU, Meerut. This day is celebrated every year to mark the birth anniversary of Dr. G.B. Shankwalkar, the founder of Indian Society of Periodontology (ISP) with the purpose of spreading oral hygiene awareness amongst the masses. However, this year due to the COVID Pandemic, there was online celebration. Students from Subharti Dental College, as well from other dental colleges like Sardar Patel, Babu Banarsi Das, Lucknow, ITS, IDST, Jaipur and other places took part in the event with zeal and enthusiasm. Events conducted – Short informational video competition (2min.) on any of the following topics-
- Correct method of brushing
- Home use of mouthwashes
- Golden rules for a healthy mouth.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT- i-Fix implant Facility Faridabad- March 13th,2020
Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Meerut organized an industrial visit for the post graduate students on 13th March, 2020 at the I- Fix Implant facility located in Faridabad. The visit was planned under the guidance of Dr. Mayur Kaushik & Dr. Nitin Tomar. The I-Fix dental implants have been conceptualized and developed by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi in collaboration with Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS)Delhi. During the visit the students were informed and taught about the process of implant manufacturing. All the steps & equipments in Implant manufacturing, from Titanium rods milling, shaping, sand blasting, acid etching, washing and packaging were demonstrated.
ALUMNI GUEST LECTURE, 14th January, 2020
Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Meerut organized an Alumni guest lecture under the guidance of our esteemed Principal, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, on 14th January, 2020 on the topic “Role of Periodontology in enhancing our Dental Practice” for the undergraduate students and interns. The lecture was taken by Dr. Neha Singh, M.D.S Periodontology who has passed BDS in year 2008 and MDS in year 2012 from Subharti Dental College. The lecture highlighted the importance of periodontology as a specialty and its importance in general dental practice. At the end of lecture, a quiz was conducted and 16 winners from the quiz were selected to participate in the free hands-on and demonstration of “Basic Suturing Techniques” on animal model. The program ended with felicitation of the guest speaker by our Principal, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava and Head of Department Periodontology, Dr. Mayur Kaushik. Also, the participating delegates were awarded with a certificate by the faculty members of the department.

PRE- CONFERENCE COURSE ON “ADVANCED PERIODONTAL PROCEDURES”

Department of Periodontology, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, Meerut conducted a pre-conference course on “Advanced Periodontal Procedures” on 6th December 2019. The course was organized as a part of the 42nd IDA UP State Annual Conference, which was a 3day gala event held at Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Meerut from 6th to 8th December,2019. The course mentor and the course coordinator for the pre- conference course were, Dr. Shalu Bathla, Professor, Mullana Dental College, Ambala and Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Professor and Head of the department Periodontology, Subharti dental college, Meerut. The course highlights included demonstration of suturing techniques, crown lengthening procedures and harvesting of gingival autografts from animal models followed by felicitation of the mentors and distribution of certificates to the delegates.
PUBLIC AWARENESS LECTURE SERIES- P.A.L.S, 22nd August,2019
As a part of P.A.L.S – “Public Awareness Lecture Series”, an initiative taken by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal, Subharti Dental College & Hospital, an educational camp was organized by the Department of Periodontology & Implantology, S.D.C & H at The Millennium School, Meerut on August 22nd ,2019. About 200 students and teachers participated in the event. The highlights of the event included demonstration of correct method of brushing, reinforcement of measures to keep the mouth clean by Dr. Mayur Kaushik, H.O.D Periodontology followed by spreading awareness of the consequences of bad oral habits by Dr. Amit Wadhawan and importance of good, nutritious diet in maintenance of oral health by Dr. Mrinalini Agarwal. The lecture was followed by a dental quiz in which the students participated enthusiastically and the winners were given gifts. The program concluded with free distribution of toothpastes to the students and teachers.

LISTERINE LECTURE-14th August, 2019
Department of Periodontology and Indian Society of Periodontology in association with Listerine continues the knowledge exchange scientific lecture series in Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut. The lecture was conducted on 14th August 2019.
The dignitaries of the programme were Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal and Dean, Subharti Dental College & Hospital and Dr. Mayur Kaushik, Head of the Department, Department of Periodontology.
The programme began with a brief address to the participants by Dr. Mayur Kaushik. This was followed by the scientific lecture on the topic “Current Opinion in Biofilm Management: Redefining Prevention, Redesigning Lifestyle” by Dr. Chander Shekhar Joshi, Reader, Department of Periodontology.
The lecture was attended by 120 participants including Interns, Postgraduates, and faculty members. The handbags containing a diary, and a certificate and Listerine mouthwashes were distributed to all the participants before the lecture.
This was followed by concluding remarks by our respected Principal, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava. This marked the end of the programme.
Soon after the lecture, refreshments was distributed to all those who attended the programme.

Dr. Athreya Rajgopal, Oral & maxillofacial surgeon was the invited guest speaker for the event. The event witnessed guest lectures, video demonstrations & live demonstration on botox and dermal fillers.
“LATEST INNOVATIONS IN PIEZOSURGERY”
