Introduction of the Department

The subject of Oral Medicine is a fascinating subset of dentistry and medicine. Apart from all aspects of dental diagnosis, the subject interfaces with internal medicine, dermatology, orthopedics, neurology, otorhinolaryngology and psychiatry. It is also the branch which formally associated itself with hospital dentistry. Oral Medicine specialists and Maxillofacial radiologists can work not only as academicians in teaching hospitals but can easily engage in speciality practice that includes diagnosing and managing different orofacial diseases, systemic diseases manifesting in jaws and oral health of medically compromised patients.
Like Medical radiology, Dental radiology is moving beyond the regular intraoral and panoramic examinations to more digitalized methods of radiological examinations and advanced imaging techniques such as Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), Magnetic
Resonance Imaging (MRI), ultrasonography with color Doppler and power Doppler and positron emission tomography. Many Oral and Maxillofacial radiologists throughout India have their own Radiology centres, CBCT centres and are involved with radiology speciality practice.
Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology is a pivotal department as it combines the three important responsibility of managing the initial diagnosis and treatment planning of all the new dental patients including their radiographic needs. It is also the centre for specialized oral medicine cases & advanced maxillofacial imaging. The department deals with diagnosis & management oforomaxillofacial diseases likepotentially malignant disorders, ulcerative, vesiculobullousoral lesions, autoimmune mucocutaneous disorders, salivary gland

pathologies, oral infections like tuberculosis and candidiasis, Temporomandibular joint disorders, facial neuralgias and myofacial pains andmanagement of medically compromised patients.
