Department’s Mission
The departmental mission is to transform our vision into reality through achieving excellence in teaching, introduce innovative teaching methods, evolve effective and impartial evaluation methods, encourage research attitudes among students and the teachers, and make available the best of treatment for the patients.
Departmental Goal
- To Impart quality dental education for the undergraduate and speciality training to post graduate students
- Encourage development of research attitude in UG and PG students.
- Training the UG students to acquire basic skills in various diagnostic methods and treatment aspects of Prosthodontics.
- Advanced training to PG students to acquire diagnostic skills and treatment skills in advanced Prosthodontic techniques.
- All round research and development activities in the department.
- Availability of basic to advanced treatment facilities for the patients.
- To be known as the best developed department among all the institutions in India
Departmental Objectives
- Effective and innovative teaching methods for the UGs and PGs.
- Small research activities to be undertaken by the UGs.
- Small and long term research activities to be undertaken by the PGs.
- Evidence based learning in the clinical practice.
- Introduction of innovative methods for teaching.
- Introduction of Problem Based Learning at UG and PG levels.
- Self-learning through seminars.
- Effective evaluation system for the students’ performance.
- Acquire contemporary equipment and materials for availability of basic to advanced treatment to the patients.
- Be host to local and national seminars in subject and host conferences in the subject under the ambit of the university
- Encourage research activities among the teachers.
Relevance of learning experience: Direct or indirect relevance of learning experience to the human beings is stressed. - Meaning orientation: Knowledge and skills are learnt understanding. Different parts are interlinked to a better practical understanding.
- Realistic learning: Professional skills are taught under real life conditions. Community based learning is encouraged as the hospital exposes the student to a selected sample of disease problems.
- Facilitative instructional sequence; Learning process is proceeded from simple to complex.
About The Department
“The Department of Prosthodontics is the largest Department of the college. The subject of Prosthodontics is very vast as it includes Complete Dentures, Removable Partial Denture, Crowns & Fixed Partial Dentures, Implants and Maxillofacial Prosthesis. In addition to these, the subject of Dental Materials is also taught in the department to the BDS students. The intake of MDS Students is six per year, which sums up to a total of eighteen PG students pursuing MDS courses at one time.”
Salient Features Of The Department
The Department has a well-equipped Ceramic Lab & Casting Lab with latest materials & instruments. The Ceramic Lab has an All-Ceramic Furnace. On a regular basis we are rehabilitating the patients with the latest all ceramic restorations. The Casting Lab is equipped with Casting Machine, Burnout Furnace, Sandblaster & Pindex System Cast Partial Denture are being successfully fabricated in this lab & delivered to the patients with satisfactory results. The Department is doing extraordinary work in Maxillofacial Prosthesis where in the patients are rehabilitated with prosthesis like obturators, guide flanges, Eye Prosthesis, Ear Prosthesis, Nose Prosthesis & Finger Prosthesis etc. by these procedures the deformities of lead & neck region are successfully treated in the department. Also implant supported Maxillofacial Prosthesis are fabricated. To pace up with the changing time implant dentistry has emerged as a successful treatment modality to rehabilitate partially & completely edentulous patients which is practiced in the Department of Prosthodontics where we have rehabilitated a number of patients successfully. The modalities vary from single missing tooth to full mouth rehabilitation. We are also practicing recent science of implantology in which the patient is rehabilitated within 72 hrs. A Construction of maxillofacial clinic was established to treat and rehabilitate Maxillofacial compromised patients. The central clinical research lab is an exclusive dental CAD CAM centre that is managed by faculty of Prosthodontics and well trained qualified dental technician with excellent craftsmanship. The laboratory is established with the vision of providing superior quality prosthesis to the general population at a great value. We achieve this by using state of the art and the latest equipment such as from class leading Dentsply Sirona dental systems.
