Objective of the Activity: To enhance mental wellbeing among dental professionals

Description: Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology, SVSU conducted a Guest lecture on the topic of “Thinking Better, Healing Better, Cognitive Behavioral Solutions for Stress in Medical Profession” for Dental faculty and post graduates under the able guidance of our dynamic Principal Dr. Nikhil Srivastava Sir. The Guest speaker was Dr. Shalu Nehra (Asst. Professor, Faculty of Art and Social sciences, SVSU). She explained the significance of mental wellbeing in the life of medical and dental professionals, and how Cognitive Behavioral Therapy plays a pivotal role in the management of stress. It was learned session.

Outcome of the Activity: The faculty and post graduates showed full enthusiasm and participated whole heartedly.

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31st May 2024 in Subharti Dental College under guidance of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal SDC with an aim of spreading awareness about the adverse effects caused by the use of tobacco. It was in association with IDA Meerut Cantt.

The following activities were organized:

Patient motivational speeches: byMaj Gen G.K. Thapliyal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal and Dean, SDC and Dr. Akhilesh mohan , CMO meerut who spoke on ill effects of tobacco and advised patients to utilize the services of Tobacco Cessation Center.
Briefing up Success story of Tobacco cessation center
- An original study on “Tobacco Cessation Center in a Dental College: An 8 year institution based study”- has been published in National Cancer Journal-(JCRT).
- Centre is operating since 2012. Quit rates increased every year from 32% in 2012-13 to the present 56.7% (complete responders -43.2% partial responders 14.4%). Subharti Dental College was awarded with COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD for its efforts by IAOMR in 2019 and 2021. The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology was also appreciated by GUIDENT magazine as “Best Department” in year 2014 & 2016. Recently, Subharti Dental College was also awarded by Global Professional Awards, 2022 for “Excellence in Providing Good Oral healthcare Services to the Community”. Apart from the above, Department of Public Health Dentistry was awarded for “Excellence in Rural Dental Services” in 2nd Global Outreach Dental Conferences & awards, 2022 and “Shikshak Shiromani Award of Honour” by SamajVikasSansthan in the year 2023.

Fun activity stalls displaying patient motivating charts, models, games etc: Students of various batches of BDS organized interesting fun activity stalls displaying patient motivating charts, models, games etc. These included blowing of candles and balloons (to check for puffiness of cheek and vital capacity of lungs), and eating golgappa competition (to check for burning sensation, cheek flexibility and mouth opening), segregating do’s and dont’s related to tobacco, tic tac, riddles, number gamble, spin the wheel etc. All winners were awarded with toothpaste and mouth rinses. A thumb impression board for those who wished to quit the habit and No Tobacco selfie booths were installed. All the above activities patients, students and faculty members participated enthusiastically and in large numbers.

Objective of the Activity:To empower dentists with awareness and understanding of TMDs and to provide insights and strategies for its management and prevention.

Description: Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, SDC, conducted 4 days value added course on " TMDs: Unfolding the Mysteries" under the able guidance of our respected Principal Dr. Nikhil Srivastava for undergraduates, interns, post-graduates and faculties. The guest speakers were Dr. UpasanaSethiAhuja (Professor and Head, OMR, SBBDCH, Ghaziabad), Dr. Priya Singh (Associate Professor, BBDCODS, Lucknow) and Dr. Ali Atif (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Director at International Institute of Medical Aesthetics). Dr. UpasanaSethiAhuja emphasized on the Orofacial Pain and TMJ Disorders and Management. The Hands-on on non-surgical treatment modalities (LASER and TENS) for orofacial pain was conducted by Dr. Priya Singh. The workshop on surgical modalities was conducted by Dr. Ali Atif. Live demonstration of Arthrocentesis was carried out. It was an interactive session in which students and faculty participated enthusiastically.

Outcome of the Activity: The students and faculties showed full enthusiasm and participated whole heartedly. The lecture and hands-on was very fruitful as individuals came to know about the practical approach, Do’s and Don’ts of surgical and non-surgical modalities.

Workshop on “Tobacco Deaddiction Therapies”

Objective of the Activity:To increase awareness among students tobacco deaddiction therapies and role of dentist in managing such patients.

Description: Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, SDC, in association with Dr. NilamGada (President, Rotary Club for Addiction Prevention, Mumbai) conducted 2 hours training workshop on " Tobacco Cessation Therapies" under the able guidance of our respected Principal Dr. Nikhil Srivastava. The guest speaker was Dr. N Vivek (Dean, SRM Kattankulathar Dental College, Chennai), a renowned resourse person, who enlightened our budding dentists with various Intervention Therapies for Tobacco Deaddiction and Role of Dentists in managing such patients. He also emphasized on Counselling, Evidence-based, Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for nicotine dependence.

Outcome of the Activity: It was a successful event. Overwhelming number of students participated in the workshop. All the students agreed that it was an insightful session and such training workshops should be conducted often.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Abhinav Sharma (Associate Professor, Deptt. Of Oral Medicine & Radiology). He explained the significance of having knowledge on Radiation Protection and its Hazardous Effects and how operator, patient and environment can be protected from its effect. It was a learned session for the students.

The Guest speaker was Dr. Rahul Bansal (Chairman, Wellness Center, SVSU). He explained the benefits of maintaining a positive approach towards life, how one should handle stress and understanding the value of having a high spiritual and emotional quotient. Also, apart from physical and mental health, spiritual wellbeing also plays a pivotal role in life and how it adds sense of purpose and meaning in life, including one’s morals and ethics.

Outcome of the Activity: The staff found it an interesting interaction. They were motivated and inspired by the lecture. They agreed that further such session should be conducted and should include their family members.

Description: Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology in association with department of Oral Pathology and Department of Public Health Dentistry conducted a Dental Screening Camp on the occasion of “World Oral Health Week” at Prem Niwas (Old Age Home and Disability Centre) Meerut, under the able guidance of our dynamic Principal Dr. Nikhil Srivastava Sir. The camp was preceded by lecture emphasizing on "Tooth Brushing Techniques and Benefits of Good Oral Hygiene" which was followed by screening of the patients and donations (useful daily wears and food items). It was an heart-warming event. The team of Prem Niwas acknowledged the efforts put in by Dental Team.

Outcome of the Activity: The members of Prem Niwas (Old Age Home and Disability Centre) showed full enthusiasm and participated whole heartedly. The Missionary Sisters of the centre were overwhelmed and thanked the dental team for this noble cause and conducting such a heartening social event.

The theme of “photography competition” was “Nature at its Best in Still Photography”. For “X-ray Shooting” students were asked to create anything from orthodontic wire and get it exposed on the IOPA film. The students participated in overwhelming number. The ideas displayed by the students were commendable. The participants and winners were awarded with the certificates. Also, on this occasion Dr. Nagaraju K and Dr. Abhinav Sharma briefed the students on History of radiation, Radiation Protection and Its significance. It was an insightful session in which students participated enthusiastically. The session was followed by the student’s visit to Wellness Centre, SVSU on 6th Oct2023. Here, Dr Nagaraju K. briefed the students. They were explained that they can look up to Wellness centre experts for their help in case of emotional/ interpersonal stress/ or any kind of difficult situation which they find difficult to handle.

The guest speakers were Dr. RenuTanwar, CBCT specialist and Dr. Gaurav Issar, Prof and Head, Prosthodontics IDST Modinagar who enlightened our budding dentists regarding the significance and applications of CBCT and CAD-CAM and how it will be fruitful for them in their later practice. It was a successful event in which students participated enthusiastically.

Outcome of the Activity: It was a learned and interactive session. Various questions were asked by the students and all their queries were successfully answered by the speakers.

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31st May 2022 in Subharti Dental College under guidance of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal SDC with an aim of spreading awareness about the adverse effects caused by the use of tobacco. It was in association with IDA Meerut Cantt

The following activities were organized:

Patient motivational speeches: by Maj Gen G.K. Thapliyal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal and Dean, SDC and Dr. Rahul Bansal, Chairman Wellness Centre of SVSU who spoke on ill effects of tobacco and advised patients to utilize the services of Tobacco Cessation Center.
Briefing up Success story of Tobacco cessation center
- An original study on “Tobacco Cessation Center in a Dental College: An 8 year institution based study”- has been published in National Cancer Journal-(JCRT).
- Centre is operating since 2012. Quit rates increased every year from 32% in 2012-13 to the present 56.7% (complete responders -43.2% partial responders 14.4%). Subharti Dental College was awarded with COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD for its efforts by IAOMR in 2019 and 2021. The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology was also appreciated by GUIDENT magazine as “Best Department” in year 2014 & 2016. Recently, Subharti Dental College was also awarded by Global Professional Awards, 2022 for “Excellence in Providing Good Oral healthcare Services to the Community”. Apart from the above, Department of Public Health Dentistry was awarded for “Excellence in Rural Dental Services” in 2nd Global Outreach Dental Conferences & awards, 2022 and “Shikshak Shiromani Award of Honour” by SamajVikasSansthan in the year 2023.

Health Camps: Department of Public Health Dentistry, SDC, in collaboration with University Environment Committee SVSU, IDA Meerut Cantt Students Wing and Master Minds-The Student Club conducted Health Camps all around Meerut district to motivate and spread the awareness among the society regarding hazardous effects of tobacco.

An Outreach program was conducted in Multannagar (UHC),Village Ghat and Village Puttha in collaboration with Subharti Medical College and Faculty of Sciences respectively on 31st May 2023

An Outreach program was conducted in Village Shobhapur on1st June 2023 in which free dental screening and treatment were provided to the rural patients

Oral health awareness talk was given to the people regarding the harmful effects of tobacco on oral health and demonstrated proper brushing technique for maintaining good oral health and hygiene and also emphasized on healthy food for good health. Toothpastes were also distributed to the people.

The course co-ordinator was Dr. Ali Atif (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon). He spoke about the application of Botulinum toxin in various orofacial pain condition and facial aesthetics. Hands-on was also conducted for the same. It was an interactive session in which students and faculty participated enthusiastically.

Outcome of the Activity:The students showed full enthusiasm and participated whole heartedly. The lecture and hands-on was very fruitful as students came to know about the practical approach, Do’s and Don’ts of Botulinum toxin and its applications.in dentistry. They experienced the above by practicing it on live patients. The students did find it a very intellectual session. They learned a lot from the course and suggested that similar type of courses should be conducted in future. Their overall experience was good.

A two day value added course of 16 hours duration was organized on “Investigations- When, How, Why and What?” on 10th & 11th June 2022 by Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology & Oral Microbiology in collaboration with Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology. A total of 135 participants attended the programme which included Interns, BDS final year students & faculty of both the departments. The resource person for the course was Dr. Priya Kumar, Professor, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, New Delhi and Dr. Ankit Goel (Oral Physician and Maxillofacial Radiologist), Director, Dr. Goel’s Dental and Maxillofacial Diagnostics, Hapur. They talked to the participants about most commonly used investigations (radiological and haematological) and guided them to implement these investigations in various oral lesions which are encountered in dental practice. Students also learned about the indications and how to read and interpret the results of various investigations. The workshop ended on 11th June with the valedictory function.

World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day was celebrated on 31st May 2022 by Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology under guidance of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal SDC with an aim of spreading awareness about the adverse effects caused by the use of tobacco. The program was graced by presence of Maj Gen G.K. Thapliyal, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University who motivated and encouraged patients to quit this harmful habit.

Tobacco Cessation Centre was established in 2012 by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal SDC and it was the first of its kind in any Dental College in North India. Till now more than 15000 patients have taken benefit of this center and at present our quit rate is around 57%. Tobacco Cessation Centre runs on every Tuesday and Friday in Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology. The success of this center is recognized by National Cancer Journal and has published its report in their Journal.

The program was also attended by Dr. Abhay M. Shankaregowda, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SVSU and Dr. Rahul Bansal, Chairman Wellness Centre of SVSU who emphasized on ill effects of tobacco and advised patients to utilize the services of Tobacco Cessation Center. The main attraction of the programme was street play and musical choir performed by the students of BDS 2021 batch. Apart from this, students of various batches of BDS organized interesting stalls displaying patient motivating charts, models, games etc.

A small token of appreciation was presented to few of the patients who are able to quit their tobacco habit with the help of this center. A self-help No Tobacco Kit containing motivational book was also inaugurated on this day which shall help people quit tobacco.

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology conducted a Guest lecture on the topic of 'Origin of x-rays- Celebrating the past, Envisioning the future' under the guidance of our respected Principal, Dr. Nikhil Srivastava. The Guest speaker was Dr. Rajendra G Patil, Professor and Head, Kothiwal Dental College, Moradabad. He explained elaborately regarding the history of x-rays and Martyrs of Radiology. Around 150 teachers and students attended the guest lecture making it a grand success.

The prizes to the winners and certificates were distributed by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal Subharti Dental College. National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Tobacco Sensitization workshop was organized under “Save the Youth” campaign, an initiative of I Can Win foundation in Subharti Dental College & Hospital under the supervision of our PrincipalDr. Nikhil Srivastava and the department of Oral Medicine & Radiology on 9th March 2019 at 8:00am. All the BDS Final Year students and interns attended the workshop. The founder of I Can Win Foundation Mr. Rabindran Mishra, corporate lawyer initiated the talk where he emphasized on ill effects of tobacco and its forms which are available in the market. He also emphasized onthe financial burden on government due to its health hazards. The talk was further continued by Dr. Pawan Gupta, a renowned Oncosurgeon, Director, Max Institute of Cancer Care, Vaishali, Ghaziabad and also the President of ‘I Can Win Foundation’. He enlightenedus with the facts how this tobacco is curbing our society and how our young minds have been addicted to it. The reason could be stress, peer pressure etc.He also guided us how one at individual and institutional level can help patients quit tobacco. The programme came to an end with a pledge taken by all present there not to indulge and help people to quit and fight back this global menace.

Dr.PrashantJaju, one of the pioneer oral maxillofacial radiologists in India was invited as the Speaker in the CDE to introduce CBCT.The Scientific Programme included Key note lecture by the Speaker and hands on workshop.The CDE enlightened the delegates on the utility, working of CBCT and the interpretation of the 3D imaging software.

Objective of the Activity:To enhance the skill of the dentist in their clinical practice.

Description: Department of Oral Medicine & Radiologyconducted a Skill Enhancement Course on “Botulinum toxin: Elixir for Facial Aesthetics and Orofacial Pain” for Interns, PGs and Faculties under the able guidance of our dynamic Principal Dr. Nikhil Srivastava Sir. The course co-ordinator was Dr. Ali Atif (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon). He spoke about the application of Botulinum toxin in various orofacial pain condition and facial aesthetics. Hands-on was also conducted for the same. It was an interactive session in which students and faculty participated enthusiastically.

Outcome of the Activity:The students showed full enthusiasm and participated whole heartedly. The lecture and hands-on was very fruitful as students came to know about the practical approach, Do’s and Don’ts of Botulinum toxin and its applications.in dentistry. They experienced the above by practicing it on live patients. The students did find it a very intellectual session. They learned a lot from the course and suggested that similar type of courses should be conducted in future. Their overall experience was good.

Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, SDC organised a full one day CDE program and workshop on "3D-Printing and its applications" on 18th October 2019 under the able leadership of Dr. Nikhil Srivastava Principal & Dean Subharti Dental College & Hospital. The Guest Speaker for the CDE was Dr Bharat M Mody from Gujarat. Dr Nagaraju K, HOD OMR was the organizing chairman and Dr Sangeeta Malik, Assoc Prof OMR was organizing secretary. It was day full of academic extravaganza. The response was overwhelming and students, delegates from near and far participated and made the event a great success. The event was graced by the presence of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor SVSU Dr. N. K. Ahuja, Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr D.C. National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Tobacco Sensitization workshop was organized under “Save the Youth” campaign, an initiative of I Can Win foundation in Subharti Dental College & Hospital under the supervision of our PrincipalDr. Nikhil Srivastava and the department of Oral Medicine & Radiology on 9^th March 2019 at 8:00am. All the BDS Final Year students and interns attended the workshop.

The founder of I Can Win Foundation Mr. Rabindran Mishra, corporate lawyer initiated the talk where he emphasized on ill effects of tobacco and its forms which are available in the market. He also emphasized onthe financial burden on government due to its health hazards. The talk was further continued by Dr. Pawan Gupta, a renowned Oncosurgeon, Director, Max Institute of Cancer Care, Vaishali, Ghaziabad and also the President of ‘I Can Win Foundation’. He enlightenedus with the facts how this tobacco is curbing our society and how our young minds have been addicted to it. The reason could be stress, peer pressure etc.He also guided us how one at individual and institutional level can help patients quit tobacco. The programme came to an end with a pledge taken by all present there not to indulge and help people to quit and fight back this global menace.

Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology celebrated National IAOMR Day on 24th April 2019. Quiz was conducted for the students of BDS Final Year who enthusiastically participated. Competition for Ideal Intra-oral periapical Radiograph and for the Best Intra-oral photograph was also held on the same day. The prizes to the winners and certificates were distributed by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal Subharti Dental College. Prize winning quiz team comprised of Saloni Bansal, Chandan Kumar, Naman Mundepi and Himani Vaswani. Prize for Best ideal radiograph was won by Aafreen Khan and Shraddha Jain. Best intraoral photograph was taken by Iqra Khan and Abhijeet Lal.

The program was attended by more than 250 delegates and was a grand event. The guest speakers were Dr. N. Gnanasundaram (President IAOMR), Dr. Vijay Raghavan and Dr. Prashant Jaju. The event was graced by the presence of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor SVSU Dr. N. K. Ahuja, Respected Principal SDC and President IDA Meerut Cantt Branch Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Dr. (Brig.) B.P. Khattak (Director PG Studies, SDC), Dr. Vineeta Nikhil (Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, SDC), Dr. Vishal Sharma (Hon. Secretary, IDA Meerut Cantt Branch) and other faculty members of SDC. Our student Kaamilah was awarded certificate from IAOMR for receiving highest marks in Oral Medicine and Radiology in final BDS.

XIV National Triple O Symposium 2016 on “INTEGRATED APPROACH TO DIAGNOSIS & MANAGEMENT” was held in Subharti Dental College and Hospital, Meerut under the aegis of IAOMR. from 4-6th March 2016. The programme highlights were Preconference courses on the First day, 6 Guest lecturers from eminent speakers from each speciality (5th and 6^th March), Quiz programme conducted by Dr Vijay Raghavan (Professor and Head, Seema Dental College, Rishikesh) (5th March), Panel discussion with expert being Dr V. Sreenivasan (Prof and Head, Saraswati Dhanwantari Dental College, Parbhani) (6th March), 200 free papers and 60 posters of Post Graduate Student (5th and 6th March) and 50 Faculty papers (5th and 6th March).

A Continuing Dental Education Programme & Hands on Workshop on CONE BEAM COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY was held in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Subharti Dental College on August 17th, 2015. The Chief Sponsor was Sirona India (Galileos). Dr. Prashant Jaju, one of the pioneer oral maxillofacial radiologists in India was invited as the Speaker in the CDE to introduce CBCT. The Scientific Programme included Key note lecture by the Speaker and hands on workshop. The CDE enlightened the delegates on the utility, working of CBCT and the interpretation of the 3D imaging software.

A CDE programme was conducted by Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology on 15^th February 2013 on the topic “Diagnostic Dilemmas: unfolding the clinical approach”. Eminent Speakers for the programme were Dr. N. Gnanasundaram and V. Sreenivasan. Around 400 delegates attended the CDE which was a great success.

APRIL 14^th 2013- CDE programme and workshop on “Educating the Educators”

A CDE programme “Educating the Educators” and workshop was conducted by Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology on 14^th April 2013 on the topic on “Learning objectives in dental education”. Eminent Speaker for the programme was Dr. Shailesh Lele. Around 90 delegates attended the workshop making it a grand success.
