at Subharti Dental College and Hospital

TIMINGS OF TOBACCO CESSATION CENTRE:
Open Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm;
Saturday: from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
Group Counselling sessions: Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
Individual Counselling sessions: Everyday from 9:00am-4:00 pm
Aim/ Objectives:
- To do exclusive tobacco cessation and de-addiction counseling for tobacco users
- Training patients in self -examination of oral cavity, and providing self-help material.
- Provide support through social media and telephonic reminders.
- To create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco amongst general public and students.
- To train students in tobacco cessation services
Brief Summary of the Initiative:
TCC came into being in December 2011 but was officially inaugurated on 31st May 2012 on the occasion of ‘World No Tobacco Day’ with the initiative taken by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal and Dean, Subharti Dental College and Hospital.

Students involved: 6 Post graduates of Oral Medicine and Radiology, all Interns and undergraduates posted in Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology as per duty roster.)
Activities conducted:
- Nukkad Natak at prominent places in the city and in Dental college premises
- Several camps planned by Public Health Department
- Public Awareness Lecture Series on Ill Effects of Tobacco (minimum 4 every year) in schools and colleges for sensitization of students
- Student Training in Tobacco cessation services to enhance follow up and foster this in dental practice
- Celebrating WORLD NO TOBACCO DAY every 31st MAY conducting extensive activities involving public, students, schools and colleges nearby and in the hospital.
- Acknowledging those who quit and their student mentors every year on World No Tobacco Day
- Training and capacity building programs organized for students and making it part of curriculum must know in Oral Medicine
- Radio/ newspaper interviews/ talk show on radio/ media coverage
- Developing our own IEC and slogan
- Use of social media

OUTCOME:
- Number of Beneficiaries Impacted – 18200 counselled
7400 enrolled in TCC
4470 quit (60.4% quit rate)
- Quit rates increased every year from 32% in 2012-13 to the present 60.4% (complete responders -45% partial responders 15.4%).
- Documentation of work done in TCC in a national Pubmed Indexed Cancer Journal(JCRT) on “Tobacco Cessation Center in a Dental College: An 8 year institution based study” https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37470615/
- COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD for its efforts by National IAOMR ACADEMY in 2019 and 2021, 2025.
- Award for Best Dental College in Community Services in 2023 by Cynodent International
- Award of special recognition by MoHFW in World No Tobacco Day 2023 fortnight campaign
- Award of Appreciation for Community Service by World Dental Conference Pierre Fauchard Academy, ASIA Region 2025
