On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day, a tobacco awareness programme was conducted by the departments of Oral Medicine and Radiology and Oral Pathology. A specially designed documentary for the day was running throughout the day in the patient waiting area depicting the addiction and ill effects of cigarette smoking. Dr. NK Ahuja, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University was the chief guest and he said cigarette smoking is harmful to health and he advised smokers to quit smoking. Nicotine in tobacco is an addictive drug. The public, especially the younger generation, should shoulder the responsibility to spread awareness about the ill-effects of smoking. A brief message was also given to the patients at the end of documentary by Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal, Subharti Dental College and Dr. Swati Goel, Reader, Oral Medicine and Radiology. This also happened to be the fourth anniversary of the tobacco cessation centre where Dr. Nikhil Srivastava, Principal, Subharti Dental College and Dr. Ravi Prakash, Prof and Head, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, and Dr. Vijay Wadhawan, Prof and Head, Department of Oral Pathology felicitated the tobacco quitters for their success.
